Gov. Matt Blunt surprised Dan Dierdorf when he asked the Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and CBS sports broadcaster to take the reins of the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission, replacing Kim Tucci. Dierdorf, 56, had never considered being chairman of the organization, which is funded through hotel taxes and tasked with the job of attracting people and conventions to the city, as well as acting as the landlord of the home of the St. Louis Rams, the Edward Jones Dome.
